“We Hope that ITM 2020
Exhibition will Result in Great
The textile sector is of great importance for Turkey’s economy, industry and exports as it is one of the leading sectors in
closing the country’s current account deficit and providing the largest added value. Adana Chamber of Industry Chairman
of the Board Zeki Kıvanç stated the following about the ITM 2020 Exhibition, which will contribute greatly to the textile
industry: ‘‘As this is an event that brings together the leading brands of the sector, I think that the exhibition will
result in great gains. I hope that the ITM 2020 will host more participants, visitors and purchasing committees

sector. Kıvanç evaluated the current situation of
the sector and expressed his opinions about ITM
exhibitions.
Kıvanç indicated that in Turkey when one thinks
the combination of textile and garment industry
together, it is seen that 6 percent of the country’s
employment is accounted for in the textiles and
clothing sector, and continued his words as follows:
‘‘When we look at the figures, 413 thousand people
are employed in textiles and 522 thousand people
are registered in the garment sector. This figure
covers 26 percent of the manufacturing industry
in Turkey. The textile and clothing industry, which
provides the greatest added value to Turkey,
continues its path as one of the leading sectors
covering the current account deficit. We export
10 billion dollars’ worth of merchandise in the
categories of fabrics, knitted fabrics, and woven
fabrics; and approximately 19 billion dollars in the
field of apparel. The textile and apparel industry
in Turkey is currently positioned as single and by
far the furthest sector that does not create current
account deficit, plus provides an export surplus of

Kivanç made an assessment of the branded
comprehensive international trade exhibitions
organized in Turkey on their contributions
to the national economy and export figures
with the following sentences: ‘‘Nowadays, the
developments we have experienced in all sectors
and new formations in the market have created an
environment where competition is considerably
intense. Today, it is no longer sufficient to produce
and market only quality products, to achieve
success and make sales. Because, in today’s
conditions, consumers have the opportunity to
encounter different prices, quality and forms of
the same product and have the chance to choose
between different alternatives of the product or
service they need. Specialized trade exhibitions
possess a market characteristic in which goods
and services producers and consumers meet
within a specified period of time. Organizing the
exhibitions focused on a specific subject enables
the participant companies to capture the demand
directly, in the shortest time and in the most
effective manner, thus achieving significant gains
in terms of both sales and promotion. In this
respect, the exhibitions provide a comprehensive
introduction for the participants to increase the
effective sales graph through one-to-one marketing
relations.
In the meeting with Kıvanç, he expressed his
views on the ITM exhibitions, and indicated his
expectations regarding ITM 2020 as follows: ‘’We
hope that the ITM 2020 Exhibition will result in
great gains since the exhibition brings together the
leading brands of the textile industry.’’ Lastly, he
finalized his statements with the following:
‘‘With the aim of the development and growth of the
textile sector, large-scale exhibitions such as ITM
provide important opportunities to all professionals
who want to keep up with the pulse of the sector
and follow the innovations. It is of great importance
that our country hosts such an event. We hope that
the ITM 2020 Exhibition will result in great gains
since the exhibition brings together the leading
brands of the textile industry. I hope that the ITM
2020 will host a larger number of participants,
visitors and purchasing committees than that of
